Summary: | Children born with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum continue to present challenging surgical management problems. This congenital cardiac defect is associated with a wide spectrum of anatomic and morphologic malformations. Surgical therapy is based primarily on the classification of the size and morphology of the right ventricle. Outcomes from surgical therapy continue to improve, with increasing long-term survival from both biventricular repairs and the Fontan procedure. The following report reviews the current surgical approach and operative techniques used for the management of these patients. |
