Summary: | In this paper, the results of the analyses performed on transport amphorae found in Messina are reported. In particular, the so-called “Corinthian B”, “ionio-massaliote” and “pseudo-chiote” amphorae have been studied. From a microscopic point of view, their fabric is not homogeneous, and a relevant part of the analysed samples is not distinguishable from locally produced ceramic from the Messina area. For almost all the samples, it has been possible to formulate a hypothesis about the production sites based on purely archaeological elements. |
