An IR study of methanol adsorption on [formula omitted] and [formula omitted] catalysts

The adsorption of CH 3OH on Pt CeO 2Al 2O 3 , Pt CeO 2SiO 2, CeO 2Al 2O 3 and Pt CeO 2SiO 2 and its subsequent decomposition has been studied by IR spectroscopy. The presence of CeO 2 in the suppo Pt catalysts causes significant changes in the decomposition of absorbed CH 3OH. The initially form...

Description
Summary:The adsorption of CH 3OH on Pt CeO 2Al 2O 3 , Pt CeO 2SiO 2, CeO 2Al 2O 3 and Pt CeO 2SiO 2 and its subsequent decomposition has been studied by IR spectroscopy. The presence of CeO 2 in the suppo Pt catalysts causes significant changes in the decomposition of absorbed CH 3OH. The initially formed surface methoxy species are transformed at elevated temperatures to absorbed formate and carbonate species on oxide sites and CO adsorbed on Pt sites.
