Description
Summary:We have explored various synthesis parameters that affect the crystal morphology and acid site density of UTD-1 zeolites. In contrast to other well-studied zeolite synthesis systems, decreasing the solubility of the silica source increased the extent of nucleation. We explain this observation in terms of the sparingly soluble, amorphous organo(metallo)silicate that forms at the start of the synthesis; this reduces the number of nutrients that are available for the nucleation and crystallization processes. We have established that the minimum framework silicon-to-aluminum ratio of UTD-1 (based on this synthesis) is 32.
