Summary:The aim of this quality improvement project was to use video-based patient education to increase patient medical literacy about the relationship between Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical dysplasia. The study was comprised of a five-question pre-intervention survey, a five-minute educational video describing the relationship between HPV and cervical dysplasia and/or cancer, and an identical post-intervention study. The survey and video were designed to be understood at a fifth-grade reading level. All materials were available in English and Spanish. 107 patients participated in the initiative from 9/2019 to 11/2020. 32% were new to the clinic, 50% were returning patients, and 17% did not indicate. 56% were English-speaking and 44% were Spanish-speaking, which was similar to the baseline demographic at our institution.
