Summary: | Effect of leaching and promoted Raney-Ni catalysts was studied in the production of polyalcohol by hydrogenation of cane sugar and hydrolyzed amides. High yields were obtained either on promoted or non-promoted Raney-Ni catalysts, but the activity depends on the amount of residual aluminum present after leaching and whether the promoter is linked to nickel or to aluminum during alloy formation. The effect of the promoter was attributed to its capacity to disperse Ni into very small particles at the surface, as evidenced by XRD. |
