Description
Summary:AMPH-CLASS is an MS Excel spreadsheet designed to carry out the classification of amphiboles based on the 1997 recommendations of the International Mineralogical Association. AMPH-CLASS can be used for either microprobe or wet chemical analysis. Given a chemical analysis of amphibole and the number of oxygen atoms (23, 24, etc) per analysis, AMPH-CLASS can be used to obtain amphibole's cation names, cation values, structural formula names, structural formula values, group, name, prefixes, and modifiers. The ferric–ferrous calculation method is chosen to be the one that produces the best estimates of measured ferric–ferrous values of an amphibole data set (∼600 analyses). Detailed structural formula and other amphibole parameters calculated by the AMPH-CLASS can be used for pressure–temperature and other petrogenetic determinations.
