Summary: | In the present work, single-phase Hf6Ta2O17 spherical powders with uniform particle sizes were successfully synthesized by a solvothermal method and heat treatment at a relatively low temperature (1000 °C). After pressure-less sintering at 1700 °C, bulk ceramics with a relative density of 96.30% could be obtained, and the micromorphology was combined by large rod-shaped particles. The thermophysical property of Hf6Ta2O17 ceramics and the influencing factors were investigated. The thermal conductivity was 1.62 W/(m·K) at 1500 °C, which was lower than that of traditional 8YSZ, indicating that Hf6Ta2O17 was more suitable for thermal barrier coatings. Doping other elements could be expected to improve the properties of Hf6Ta2O17 ceramics.
