Summary: | Electrospun nanofibres are considered advanced sample preparation sorbents for the preconcentration and isolation of environmental pollutants at trace levels. The attractive properties of the electrospun nanofibres such as high surface-to-volume ratio, nanoporous properties and high adsorption capacity have made them promising candidates as the extraction sorbents for sample preparation prior to determination by analytical instruments. Electrospun nanofibres were incorporated in many sample preparation strategies including solid phase microextraction (SPME), thin film microextraction (TFME), solid phase extraction (SPE), micro-solid phase extraction (μ-SPE), and other solid-phase extraction techniques. This review summarised the applications of electrospun nanofibres as sorbents for enrichment and sample preparation of environmental pollutants such as benzene compounds, parabens, pesticides, phenols and heavy metals published in 2015–2021. The trace levels of the pollutants were measured as low as 3 ng/L to 0.05 mg/L.
