Summary: | Energy-water supply in low-income rural communities is addressed using a multi-objective model for defining the configuration and size of the system. The considered objective functions are minimizing the total annual cost, water and land usage, CO2 emissions and maximizing local jobs and the social opportunity associated to technological change. The multi-objective strategy meets a trade-off solution between economic, environmental and social dimensions which are integrated by subsets of objective functions. Strategies for energy-water surplus management based on batteries and pumping systems are evaluated. Conflicts between social and economic objectives are identified. As Case Study, profiles of energy and water consumption of a rural community from Mexico are presented. |
