Summary: | Two types of conformal composite panels, namely single-window conformal structure (SWCS) and multi-window conformal structure (MWCS), were designed and manufactured to achieve microwave transmission and blast-resistance simultaneously. These conformal panels have characteristics of multiple-materials, co-cured hierarchical structures and smooth external surface. Adopting woven lattice sandwich structure in conformal window lets that microwave transmission exceeding 80% covers bands from 4.5 GHz to 9.7 GHz and 16.5 GHz to 18 GHz. In field explosion experiments indicate that hierarchical stiffened sandwich structure with multi-windows exhibits better blast resistance. The MWCS remains structural integrity after repeated explosions with scaled distance varying from 2.565 m/kg1/3 to 0.646 m/kg1/3. Typical damage patterns of face blackening, face hole, matrix cracking, and breakage of conformal windows were revealed.
