Description
Summary:Acoustic emission (AE) is one of the most effective techniques for studying internal microcracking in concrete. This study aims to investigate the fracture behaviour and damage mechanisms in plain concrete specimens under monotonic and fatigue loading by employing various AE analysis techniques. A parametric study of the AE data collected from twelve beam specimens under three-point bending is conducted. The study concludes that average frequency versus rise angle analysis and intensity analysis can identify structural damage occurrences and provide insights into potential failure. Additionally, by applying k-means clustering to AE data, four distinct damage mechanisms in plain concrete are identified. •Analysis of acoustic emission data for monotonic and fatigue loading in concrete.•AF versus RA analysis to study the occurrence of damage within material.•Historical index can be used to identify formation of fracture process zone.•Intensity charts can be used as warning for fatigue failure.•Cluster analysis for identification of damage mechanisms in concrete.
