Description
Summary:[Display omitted] •Electronic structures of anthracenophane and its photoadduct.•Photoisomerization of anthracenophane.•Through-space and through-bond intramolecular interactions. The electronic structure of photoadduct (PA) of bi(anthracene-9,10-dimethylene) (anthracenophane; ACP) has been studied in the gas phase by UV photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) and quantum chemical calculations. PA was obtained by photoisomerization of 9,10-anthracenophane induced by UV light from the He discharge lamp which is also used as an ionization radiation source for UPS. The electronic structure of PA was found to be very similar to the electronic structure of dianthracene (DA). Molecules of PA and DA both contain four non-conjugated benzene moieties with “butterfly” shaped molecular structures.
