Description
Summary:Several works have highlighted the relevance of 3D modelling techniques for the study of rock art, especially in case of deteriorated state of preservation. This paper presents a methodological approach to accurate document two Bronze Age rock art panels in Galicia (Spain), using photogrammetry SfM. The main aim is to show the application of digital enhancement techniques which have allowed the accurate depiction of the motifs and the correction of previous calques, focusing on the application of the exaggerated shading as a novel analytical method. •Dense Photogrammetry is used here, based on Structure from Motion (SfM).•Creation of scaled 3D models through photogrammetry.•Digital enhancement techniques for the study of deteriorated engravings: virtual lights and MeshLab Radiance Scaling.•Exaggerated Shading: the technique is focused on a rendering method, which starts from an untextured model and adjusts dynamically the effective position of the light in different areas of the model surface.•As a result, we are able to see now new motifs and correct the previous tracings, proposing an updated view of the different study cases.
