Summary: | Recently, boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) and nanosheets (BNNSs) have drawn the attention of scientists due to their excellent performances in chemical stability, thermal conduction, electric insulation, neutron absorption, and high-temperature antioxidation. However, the large-scale fabrication of BNNTs and BNNSs with high quality is still the main obstacles hindering their practical applications. In this review, we summarized the fundamental structures and properties of BNNTs and BNNSs, as well as their syntheses and some of applications up to date. We expected to integrally view the BNNTs and BNNSs, which may be crucial to promote the high-quality, large-scale, and low-cost manufacture of them, and also useful to design and tailor the microscopic structures of these nanomaterials. This article may spark some novel considerations on the syntheses and applications of BNNTs and BNNSs.
