Summary: | Assessment of electrocoagulation/flotation (ECF) treatment parameters and their optimization for new and still uninvestigated industrial wastewater is complex due to a lack of available literature. Purification of new industrial effluents requires a precise definition of the characteristics of the batch ECF system and working variables. Inadequate combinations of factors and misunderstanding of their mutual influence can lead to process failure. The first section of this research outlines the critical aspects and phases of ECF treatment, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages. It also describes the principles and chemical reactions involved in the dissolution of anodic material. The review's second part shows how operational ECF parameters influence treatment effectiveness. By optimizing these parameters, the application of ECF to industrial effluents can be enhanced, leading to more efficient pollutant removal. This review aims to deepen and broaden the understanding of ECF treatment, providing researchers in this field with essential foundational information.
•ECF is an effective method for purifying industrial wastewater.•A rising trend in ECF wastewater treatment research is evident.•Optimizing operational variables is crucial for ECF efficiency.•Proper ECF process parameters combinations enhance the treatment effectiveness.•Pilot plants are essential to explore the pros and cons of ECF treatment further. |
