Summary: | The Illinois Basin – Decatur Project (IBDP) has demonstrated the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of the process of isolating the carbon dioxide (CO2) stream from biofuels production and storage in a deep saline reservoir at a depth of more than 2,000 meters. Geologic assessment and controls have proven essential to understanding reservoir conditions and predicting CO2 behavior. The injectivity and storage capacity of part of the lower Mt. Simon Sandstone at IBDP have been confirmed. Modeling, microseismic event analysis, and MVA continue to provide significant insights into reservoir response to stored CO2 and the development of commercial-scale project workflows. |
