Description
Summary:•We put forward the design idea of forging mark on the connecting rod.•We study the strength of characters to connecting rod by finite element method and experiment.•We give the design advice to mark on connecting rod. The marks of the connecting rod are the embodiment of product model, but how to design the connecting rod's marks has not guidance method at present. In this paper, the design ideas on the connecting rod's forging marks were proposed, and the influencing factors of connecting rod marks' characters were analyzed. The influence of mark characters on the strength was researched by the finite element method, and the results were validated by some examples. The results show that: determination the characters, the characters vertical tension - compression direction are “arc” or free extending; consideration the strength of the connecting rod, the marks are reduced or avoided to forge at the region of the connecting rod body; consideration operation quality tracing of the connecting rod in diesel engine, the simplify marks are designed at the two side of the connecting rod big end; consideration the accuracy of assembly, the matching marks are designed at the top arc of the connecting rod cap.
