Summary: | The Forkhead box (FOX) gene family encodes a group of regulatory proteins which plays an important role in cancer development. The FOXC1 gene is from the Forkhead family, upstream of the lncRNA FOXCUT gene can play a regulatory role. The present study was performed to analyze the expression of FOXC1 and FOXCUT genes in gastric cancer (GC) patients.
The study was conducted on 39 patients. Total RNA was extracted from tumoral and adjacent tissue samples and was used for expression analysis via two step reverse transcriptase quantitative real-time PCR method.
The relative expression of FOXCUT and FOXC1 genes was significantly higher in tumor tissue in comparison with its adjacent tissue (p = 0.0059, p = 0.0162 respectively). We also evaluated the correlation between gene expression levels and patients' clinical manifestations which illustrated that stage of disease and patients' gender are significantly correlated with FOXC1 and FOXCUT genes expression, respectively.
The evidences of present study suggest that up-regulation of FOXC1 and FOXCUT genes might be a biomarker for GC diagnosis. |
