The kinetics of mercury vaporization in soil during low-temperature thermal treatment

•Measured Hg concentrations in soil gas were 2 orders of magnitude lower than theoretical values.•Measured ΔH0 for Hg species in soil were 30% of the theoretically calculated ΔH0.•The order of Hg thermal desorption kinetics is Hg0 ≈ HgCl2
