Summary:The reaction of the germylenes ( S)-[Ge{O 2C 20H 10-(SiMe 2Ph) 2-3,3′}{NH 3}] and [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 2] with Bu t I or MeI yields the corresponding germanium(IV) compounds ( S)-[Ge{O 2C 20H 10-(SiMe 2Ph) 2-3,3′}{R}{I}] or [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 2(R)(I)] (R = Bu t and Me). The tri(aryloxo)germane [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 3(Me)] was also prepared from [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 2(Me) (I)]. The germanium(II) aryloxide complexes ( S)-[Ge{O 2C 20H 10-(SiMe 2Ph) 2-3,3′}{NH 3}] ( 1) and [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 2] ( 2) react with either Bu t I or MeI to yield the corresponding germanium(IV) compounds ( S)-[Ge{O 2C 20H 10-(SiMe 2Ph) 2-3,3′}{Bu t }{I}] ( 3), ( S)-[Ge{O 2C 20H 10-(SiMe 2Ph) 2-3,3′}{Me}{I}] ( 4), [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 2(Bu t )(I)] ( 5), and [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 2(Me)(I)] ( 6). Compound 6 reacts with 2,6-diphenylphenol to yield [Ge(OC 6H 3Ph 2-2,6) 3(Me)] ( 7), while 3– 5 do not. The X-ray crystal structures of 3– 5 and 7 were determined, and 3– 5 represent the first structurally characterized germanium(IV) species having germanium bound to both oxygen and iodine.
