Description
Summary:The objective of this case series report is to present the 6 months radiological outcomes the horizontal augmentation of alveolar ridge defect via using autogenous dentin block graft. The study included images of clinically healthy-nonsmoking 10 patients (4 males -6 females) with an average age of 45 who was performed one staged horizontal augmentation using autogenous dentin block graft between March 2022-November 2023. Horizantal crest width was assessed using cone beam computed tomography prior to surgery and 6 months post-surgery. Measurements were obtained at the crest, 3 mm, and 6 mm levels perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the alveolar crest. In the measurements made on axial sections, a statistically significant difference was found in the final measurements compared to the initial. Average bone gain was 2.35 mm at crest, 2.64 mm at 3 mm, and 2.05 mm at 6 mm levels. Although autogenous bone graft is considered the most suitable augmentation material, it has limitations such as limited donor area, morbidity. It is well known that dentin and bone have similar properties in terms of organic and inorganic structure. Recent studies have shed light on the use of dentin graft by evaluating its clinical performance in various bone augmentation procedures, and this type of graft application has been found to acceptable clinical results. Present report demonstrates that treating severe bone defect via use of autogenous dentin block graft improves treatment results and success rate.
