Summary: | This paper addresses the two-simultaneous-leak problem in pipelines based on an Extended Kalman Filter used as a state observer. The proposed methodology relies on the availability of pressure head and flow rate measurements at the ends of the pipeline. It consists of directly estimating the magnitude and position of each leak. These parameters are considered new state variables with constant dynamics, giving rise to an extended representation. In that case, the requirement for some appropriate (persistent) input is then discussed, and the approach is illustrated on the basis of data coming from various experiments with a prototype available at Cinvestav Guadalajara. |
