Description
Summary:Conventional generating capacity reliabiity evaluation is normally done using probabilistic techniques that involve a wide range of generating unit and load parameters. These methods have gradually replaced the basic deterministic techniques used for decades. There is, however, considerable reluctance in many electric power utilities to completely abandon deterministic considerations. The probabilistic and deterministic approaches are combined using the wellbeing framework in this paper. The system wellbeing is expressed by three probabilistic indices, the probability of health, the probability of margin and the probability of risk. The paper presents an analytical technique that can be used to evaluate these indices and illustrates its application in the preventive maintenance scheduling of generating facilities.
