Luminescence and EPR studies of UVB emitting YPO4 doped with Gd3+ ions
A series of Gd-doped YPO4 with Y1-xPO4:xGd (0.005 ≤ x ≤ 0.10) compositions has been prepared via co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicates the formation of a tetragonal structure for all samples. The material shows a dominant emission band at 312 nm when excited by 272 nm l...

Summary: | A series of Gd-doped YPO4 with Y1-xPO4:xGd (0.005 ≤ x ≤ 0.10) compositions has been prepared via co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicates the formation of a tetragonal structure for all samples. The material shows a dominant emission band at 312 nm when excited by 272 nm light. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity increases up to x = 0.10, indicating the absence of concentration quenching. The g-values observed via electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) are a part of the characteristic U spectrum of gadolinium ions. Furthermore, the spectra show sharp bands at low Gd3+ concentrations that merge into a broader peak at higher of Gd3+ concentrations. |
