Description
Summary:This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (https://www.elsevier.com/locate/withdrawalpolicy). This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. Following concerns raised by an anonymous reader regarding possible image manipulation in Fig. 4B, specifically that panels labeled C and D have overlap but represent different groups of animals, the journal conducted a thorough investigation. The corresponding author, Dr. Kingsley Afoke Iteire, stated that the anonymous reader's claim could not be confirmed authoritatively by the authors as they do not have access to image manipulation detection software. The corresponding author further stated that the authors believe the photographs are authentic, but they will accept the editorial decision. Upon additional analysis, the Editor-in-Chief found other instances of manipulation that extend beyond the initial concern. Dr. Kingsley Afoke Iteire was informed accordingly. After careful consideration and consultation with the board, the Editor-in-Chief determined that the explanation did not satisfactorily address the concerns presented and a retraction is warranted. The scientific community takes a very strong view on this matter and apologies are offered to readers of the journal that this was not detected during the submission process.
