Summary:This special issue on “Groundwater Sustainability Assessment and the Research-Practice Nexus” presents 18 papers aimed at addressing the widening gap between scientific research and practical groundwater management. Despite recent advancements in data and modeling technologies, many studies lack lasting academic and practical impact, raising concerns about their value. To counter this, the issue brings together research that emphasizes practical application in four key areas: groundwater management and policy, dynamics and modeling, quality and pollution, and sustainability assessment, aiming to ensure that hydrological research leads to tangible, long-term benefits.
