Broad white light supercontinuum generation in Barium Zinc Borate glasses

A series of Barium Zinc Borate glasses (BBZ) with composition (40-x) BaO-xZnF2- 60B2O3, where x = 5, 15, 25, and 35 mol% were synthesized using the conventional melt quench method. Supercontinuum generation (SCG) and the third harmonic generation (THG) from the samples were recorded by varying power...

Description
Summary:A series of Barium Zinc Borate glasses (BBZ) with composition (40-x) BaO-xZnF2- 60B2O3, where x = 5, 15, 25, and 35 mol% were synthesized using the conventional melt quench method. Supercontinuum generation (SCG) and the third harmonic generation (THG) from the samples were recorded by varying power. The evolution of SCG and THG behaviour is divergent with respective to the glass composition. Bandgap versus supercontinuum broadening variation is found to be in linear in nature. Nonlinear coefficients of the samples were measured using Z-scan technique to understand their role on SCG. The nonlinear refractive index (n2) exhibited a linear scaling with the third-harmonic generation but not with supercontinuum broadening. [Display omitted] •Supercontinuum generation (SCG) depends on the glass composition.•Glasses with larger bandgap produced better supercontinuum.•Third harmonic generation and supercontinuum generation showed dissimilar trends.•SCG depends both on the nonlinear refractive index and the nonlinear absorption.
