Summary:The present letter to the Editor raises concerns regarding the paper “Fluorescence detection by thiourea based probe of physiologically important sodium ion” published in Journal of Luminescence in 2014, Vol. 154, P. 67–73, 10.1016/j.jlumin.2014.04.011 by Kundan Tayade et al. and reports on failure to reproduce the results of the mentioned paper. •We failed to reproduce the results reported previously;•Sodium ion does not interact with the reported chemosensor;•The results of quantum chemical calculations are dubious;•The compound reported previously might be impure.
