Summary:Amorphous ribbons with different composition (Fe-based and Co-based) and length (from 15 to 90 cm) were used for examination of the elastic waves excited by the magnetic field as result of magnetostriction. The AC magnetic field with the amplitude of 5 Oe was applied locally. A piezoelectric sensor was used to measure the vibration. The voltage on the sensor was controlled by an oscilloscope. It was discovered that at definite frequencies the amplitude of vibration depends on the distance from the exiting coil. The sound velocity was calculated.
