Measurements of K-shell Ar spectra from z-pinch dynamic hohlraum experiments made using a focusing spectrometer with spatial resolution

Description
Summary:Focusing spectrometer designs offer the potential to simultaneously obtain high spectral resolution and high spatial resolution, though usually at the penalty of a limited spectral range. To measure K-shell Ar emission from z-pinch-driven dynamic hohlraum capsule implosion experiments at Sandia's Z facility, a unique focusing spectrometer configuration was built. For Ar sources ⩽ 1 mm the spectrometer provides λ / Δ λ > 2000 and σ < 50 μ m over the spectral range from 2.95 Å to 3.78 Å . This diagnostic has provided high-quality data suitable for line-shape and modeling analysis. The instrument is described in detail along with some example data and analysis from dynamic hohlraum experiments.
