description [Display omitted] •CoxNi1-x/PANI and (CoNi)60M40 (M = Sn, Zn, Cu)/PANI nanocomposites were synthesized.•One pot polyol processing was used for preparation of the alloy nanoparticles.•Numerous sub-microspheres of CoxNi1-x were seen with a diameter of 300–600 nm.•The ternary alloy/PANI nanocomposites show the superior RL.•The maximum reflection loss (RL) of − 36.9 dB can be observed at 11.5 GHz. In this study, the essential microwave properties of the synthesized ternary alloy Co-Ni-M (M = Sn, Zn, Cu)/PANI nanocomposites were investigated, in terms of the complex permittivity and permeability, dielectric and magnetic loss factors, impedance matching ratio, and the attenuation constant. Compared to the synthesized binary alloy Co-Ni/PANI nanocomposites, an enhanced reflection loss (RL) with a wider absorption frequency range was detected for the ternary alloy nanocomposites. A maximum reflection loss of about −14.6 dB was obtained in the binary CoxNi1-x/PANI nanocomposites with a thickness of 3.5 mm, while it was improved to −36.9 dB in the Co-Ni-Sn/PANI nanocomposite with a thickness of 3.2 mm. Moreover, a broad absorption bandwidth of the X-frequency band (˜ 9–12.5 GHz) was detected for the RL values belowe -10 dB. It was found that the improved reflection loss in the Co-Ni-Sn/PANI nanocomposite can attribute to a higher attenuation constant and a better impedance matching as well.
