Summary: | A polymeric biocide polyhexamethylene guanidine (PHMG) modified alginate-coated zinc oxide nanocomposite (ZnO@Alg-PHMG) has been proposed for drug delivery and antibacterial applications. A range of instrumental characterizations including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TGA, and zeta potential were utilized to verify the ZnO@Alg-PHMG synthesis. The drug delivery behavior of the ZnO@Alg-PHMG was determined using curcumin (Cur) as a model antibacterial agent. Further, the PHMG-induced antibacterial activity of the ZnO@Alg-PHMG was evaluated against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, S. aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, E. coli) bacterial pathogens. |
