Description
Summary:In this study, we report transmission electron microscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy study of cerium oxide thin layer grown on graphite foil substrate by direct liquid injection chemical vapour deposition. Transmission electron microscopy experiments have revealed the porous morphology of the deposited layer. Energy electron loss spectroscopy measurements were also performed in scanning mode to study the evolution of the cerium valence. In addition to Ce4+ inside the layer, the presence of reduced cerium oxide with Ce3+ valence is pointed out at the layer surface and at the surface of the porosity developed by the layer. Besides, studies of high resolution images coupled to electron energy loss spectroscopy have indicated the presence of crystallized ceria nanoparticles, and the absence of cerium carbide.
