Description
Summary:The present work focuses on the analytical determination of forces acting on a single spherical bubble during detachment due to pool boiling conditions in water and liquid nitrogen (LN2). Forces acting in X & Y directions have been evaluated and compared with that of bubble formation in LN2. Net vertical force existing with the LN2 bubbles after the detachment from the nucleation site has been found to be about one-third of the net force obtained by the vapour bubble in case of water as a working fluid. Also, in case of water, the net horizontal force is about 400% more than the detachment forces obtained for liquid nitrogen bubble. In addition to detaching forces, bubble departure diameter has also been evaluated using different models. It was found that the bubble diameter remains nearly equal for water and liquid nitrogen.
