Summary: | While dealing the fields of nano-filler modified polymer composite materials, it has been widely accepted that the combination of nanoparticles with conventional polymeric systems may create nanocomposite materials with superior electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. In the present paper, a comparative study on dielectric properties, primarily comprising dielectric permittivity and tan delta (loss profiles) of certain nanostructured alumina modified polycarbonate composite materials in the frequency range of 10Hz - 25MHz. Commercial grades of polycarbonate polymers with defined properties, ie., molecular weight were used as base materials and further to investigate the dielectric properties of polycarbonate nanocomposites with variable levels of filler concentrations. Test results shows enhancement of dielectric constant over five orders of magnitude and decrease in dissipation factor by 13.3%. The dielectric permittivity and loss profile of the derived composite materials are improved with reference to electrical insulation properties as compared to a non-modified polycarbonate samples. |
