Description
Summary:In the present work, dynamic behavior of laminated Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composite plate due to impact is studied with experimental work as well as finite element model, considering different boundary condition and nose angle of conical impactor. In the experimental impact tests, conical nosed steel impactor of mass 52 g and diameter 19 mm are fired with pneumatic gun on laminated GFRP composite plate. The material processing and characterization of GFRP composite is carried out as required for the progressive damage analysis which is based on material stress/strain criteria. A three dimensional FE model is presented to study the damage pattern and their evolution in laminated composite plate under impact. Pressure wave that leads to generation of various stresses in composite plate is studied for different impactor shapes.
