Summary: | The commercially available and relatively cheap TiO2 was doped with sulphur (source of sulphur used was thiourea) by simple and effective mechanical process of ball milling and has been used as a photoanode of dye- sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).These TiO2 films were synthesized on to the fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrates followed by sintering at 450°C for half an hour. Betalain dye was extracted from fresh beetroot and graphite was used as counter electrode. The film shows tetragonal structure having high crystallinity. The solar to electric conversion efficiency for these solar cells have increased on doping it with sulphur. A relative 21% increase in conversion efficiency is observed for sulphur doped TiO2 than that of un-doped TiO2. The improved performance is attributed to the rise in charge injection from dye to the sulphur doped TiO2 |
