Summary: | In this research work 3 mm plates of AA3003/SiC is used as a parent material for friction stir welding. Experimentation was carried out using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. Three process parameters with three levels were selected. Chosen process parameters are spindle speed, welding speed and tool load. Effect of these process parameters on mechanical properties of joints was evaluated. ANOVA study was also conducted. Results showed that the spindle speed is the major process parameters that affect the joint properties compared to welding speed and tool load. Better joint strength was obtained for spindle speed of 1000 rpm, welding speed of 90 mm/min and tool load of 3kN. |
