Summary: | AA2014 aluminium alloy is high strength and lightweight alloy that is extensively used in aerospace and various metallurgical industrial applications. AA2014, which is the second most popular of the AA2000 aluminium alloy series, is behind only AA2024 aluminium alloys. However, fusion welding of these alloys presents many challenges. Keeping these problems in view, friction stir welding was employed as an alternative for welding these alloys. The microstructure, hardness and pitting corrosion of electron beam welds and friction stir welds have been studied and compared. |
