Summary:Colour is typically the main pollutant that is found in wastewater and is mainly discharged by synthetic dye manufacturing industries. Approximately 15% of the dye is discharged as wastewater from these industries and is released into the ground water sources which further affect the aquatic system. The present article signifies the degradation of toxic dye (Acridine Orange- (A.O)) using photocatalysis. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is the mostly used metal oxide compound in the field of photocatalysis for the degradation of toxic pollutants. Research works were carried out to modify the properties of TiO2 by means of altering the size of coarse particles to nano. The process of altering the size influences the surface area of the catalyst which results in more degradation of the pollutant. The characterization of the nanoparticles was carried out using SEM, XRD and FTIR analysis. The optimum conditions for parameters like UV-irradiation and contact time, Dosage of photocatalyst, pH, initial concentration and temperature were observed for maximum degradation of dye.
