Summary: | The focus of this study was to observe continuous removal of Eosin Yellow from aqueous solution by adsorption was investigated using a laboratory scale fixed bed column packed with Manila Tamarind Seed Powder. The various characteristics of Manila Tamarind seed powder were studied using FTIR, SEM and XRD studies. The parameters discussed are flow rate (1–5 ml/min), bed height (2–6 cm) and initial concentration (10–50 mg/l). The flow rate at 5 ml/min, bed height at 6 cm and initial concentration at 50 mg/l resulted in highest Eosin Yellow uptake compared to the other conditions. The breakthrough time decreased from 195 to 90 min with increase in the flow rate from 1 to 5 ml/min and BTC also decreased from 255 to 45 min while the initial concentration of the dye increased from 10 to 50 mg/l. With increase in bed height 2 to 6 cm, the break through time increased from 90 to 135 min. The column experimental data obtained at different conditions were analysed using the different models i.e; Bohart-Adams model, BDST model and Yoon-Nelsons model and the results were satisfactory. From this research results indicate that Manila Tamarind Seed Powder can be used an effective, low cost and high dye uptake capacity adsorbent. |
