Description
Summary:As a promising clean and renewable energy, hydrogen has emerged as net zero fuel with null greenhouse emission. Electrolysis of water has the capability to achieve the green hydrogen production requirement globally. The key challenge is the efficiency of the electrolyzer as at hPEM water electrolysisydrogen LHV of 33.3 kWh/kg, the output capacity of hydrogen production does not meet the input power. The purpose of this article is to discussion of the advantages, disadvantages, cost elements and efficiencies of the relevant water electrolysis technologies. In this report, we discussed three main categories (types of charge carriers) of water electrolysis technologies i.e. alkaline, proton exchange membrane (PEM), and solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) in brief. We also discussed the challenges, prospects, and global trends of water electrolysis technology and make critical propositions regarding the implementation.
