Summary: | Pneumatic drives are widely preferred in the industry over electrical and hydraulics as they offer low-cost automation. In industrial automation, accuracy in motion sequences particularly accuracy at the intermittent position of the valve is crucial to achieving the required stroke length. It is difficult to predict and control the position of a pneumatic cylinder with a double-acting single rod, as forces on both sides are unequal. The paper reviews the positioning techniques deployed by researchers and concludes that estimation of response time and stopping accuracy is vital to achieve the correct positioning. This review paper will motivate researchers to work on the highlighted research gap in the field of Pneumatics Automation. |
