Summary: | Joining of Nimonic alloys components delivered as sheets by resistance spot welding process, offers numerous advantages from technical and economic point of view. Knowing the structural modifications induced by the thermal-deformational cycle represents a very important problem in order to avoid the cracks occurrence in the welded joints.
In the present paper are analysed the microstructural and the hardness characteristics in the three homogenous welding areas of the nickel super alloy, strengthened by artificial aging. The short time of the welding process and the high power density of the heating source results in a reduced heat-affected zone (HAZ). The dimensional development of the crystal grains from HAZ is negligible due to the low diffusivity of the nickel-based solid solution matrix, having a face-centred cubic lattice that inhibits the quick migration of the grain limits during the welding process. |
