Summary: | Friction Stir Welding process (FSW) is attracted due to joining of metals in solid state performance and does not involves melting and recast issue. In FSW process, tool pin profile material plays a significant role which influence the performance improvement of welded joints. In the present paper, a review work is conducted on impact of tool pin profile in FSW process. Different tool pin profiles are attempted by researchers such as circular, square, triangular, hexagon, tapered cylinder. The result of review work is observed that tool pin profiles are significantly influenced the adequate heat generation, material flow and mixing, grain structure refinement, structure dynamic volume to static volume defect free joints, secondary phase transformation and pulsating action during FSW process. It is understood that quality of welded joints is influenced by optimum selection of tool pin profile in FSW process. This review effort is concentration about the performance improvement using appropriate selection of tool pin profiles. |
