Structural properties of borobismuthate glasses doped with MnO

A batch of glasses was produced using the melt quenching method, which had the composition of 20BaO-10 Bi2O3-(70-x) B2O3-x MnO, where x was varied between 0 and 1 mol%. The glass samples were found to be amorphous according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR)...

Description
Summary:A batch of glasses was produced using the melt quenching method, which had the composition of 20BaO-10 Bi2O3-(70-x) B2O3-x MnO, where x was varied between 0 and 1 mol%. The glass samples were found to be amorphous according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy disclose the occupancy of absorption bands corresponding to different structural units of oxides in the samples. Specifically, only the glasses with added manganese ions showed a band associated with bending modes of Mn-O bonds. In addition, Raman analysis was performed on the samples and scattering peaks were observed at various locations.
