Description
Summary:An effect of induced molecular–nuclear transitions (MNT) is predicted and evaluated for the first time. Possibility of nuclear fusion in some molecules in the presence of near threshold resonances in final nuclei was earlier shown theoretically for the case of equal values of energy of molecular state and that of final nuclear resonance. If the energies are different, then induced MNT effect is possible because the molecular–nuclear complex represents a two-level quantum system: the nuclear system represents the lower level, and the molecule is a higher one. This type of MNT could be induced by electromagnetic radiation of keV range, thus MeV-range γ-quanta are expected to occur in coincidence with primary X-rays, for example, in H 2O → 18Ne transition.
