Summary: | In the present study, the novel calcined CuAl-layered double hydroxides/carbon nanotubes/polyvinylidene fluoride (CuAl-CLDH/CNT/PVDF400) composites are fabricated via a hydrothermal, casting and calcination method. The as-fabricated CuAl-CLDH/CNT/PVDF400 composite was characterized by FE-SEM, EDS element mapping, XRD, FTIR, BET and BJH. The prepared composite applied as adsorbents to remove Carminic acid (CA) as an anionic dye from colored wastewater. The adsorption efficiency of CA by CuAl-CLDH/CNT/PVDF400 adsorbent is higher than that of the other calcined and uncalcined composites. The obtained composite in aqueous solutions applied for CA removal was investigated based on central composite design (CCD) matrix in batch mode. The adsorption kinetics of CA on obtained composite followed by intra-particle diffusion model that indicated that the limiting step in adsorption could be controlled by the diffusion process. The maximum adsorption capacity by Langmuir isotherm reached 33.44 mg g−1. Thermodynamic study represented that the adsorption of CA on to the obtained composite was an endothermic process.
