Summary:A lariat crown ether ligand 7,16-bis (5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzyl)-1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclo octadecane (H 2L 3) has been prepared via one-pot Mannich reaction. Reaction of H 2L 3 with Cu(NO 3) 2 affords complex Cu–L 3. The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-visible spectroscopy. The crystal structure of the complex has been determined by X-ray diffraction study. The complexation results of Cu(NO 3) 2 with diazacrown ethers containing different phenolic side arms are summarized and analyzed.
